From Frankfurt Airport to Downtown

Taxi are an expensive way to get to the city,  the best way and most economic way is to take the S Bahn Train, line S8 or S9 from the train station near Terminal 1 to Frankfurt Taunusanlage, Frankfurt Hauptwache or Frankfurt Konstablerwache, which are in the heart of the city. It takes around 11 Min, costing 4.65 Euro or 9.10 Euro for a round trip.

Opera House

Untermainanlage 11, 60311 Frankfurt am Main

The main opera house in town, here, the Oper Frankfurt is housed and it is also one of the leading opera ground in the world. Go here and soak up some of that artistic feel. The building itself is open in 1963. If interested you might even attend a show.

Old Town Hall (Romer)

The town hall is a 600 years old medieval building, its iconic light brown façade is definitely recognisable in the Romerberg. Spend some time here admiring here, if possible, wander a little inside and spend some time.

Romerberg

The most iconic public square in Frankfurt where it is lines up with ornate half-timbered buildings, this place is awesome for the people, the café and the happening. With regularly fairs and markets being housed here. The place also makes pretty good pictures.

Dom St. Bartholomaus

The main cathedral in Frankfurt, it is also known as the St Bartholomaus. It is right next to the Romer, built in the 14th century, it is well preserved. You can also climb the 95 meter church tower.

Eiserner Steg

The recognisable iron bridge linking both side of the town. This bridge is worth the trip and a good way to admire it would be a walking trip to the other side of Frankfurt. It gives you a great view of the main river and also the skyline. The bridge has almost a century of history.

Hauptwache

The centre of public transportation and also the crisscross section where there are numerous restaurants, cafes and boutiques. It is also one of the main shopping areas in town.

Alte Oper

Opernplatz 1, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

A 19th century concert hall, this place use to be the opera house in town but have since been replaced by the newer building. Rebuilt after the world war, it is now being use as a venue for concert and other thing. The fountain and the building itself is pretty.

Sachsenhausen

The other side of town when you could reach by crossing the iron bridge. This part is famous for its cider bar. It is also the part where the main station is located in. Enjoy walking through the neighbourhood for a change of scenery. Taking a stroll along the river would be pretty nice too.

Rhine Cruise

Along the banks near to the iron bridge, you would be able to find many tour companies that provide a cruise down the main river, offering another aspect in looking at Frankfurt. Check out KD Rhine for more details.

Kleinmarkthalle

Hasengasse 5-7, 60311 Frankfurt am Main

A local market selling local and also international product. It has many unique goods which deserve a visit. Many products are unique which you have not seen before. Open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and till 4pm on Sat. It is closed on Sun and holidays.

Curry Mitte

The iconic street food in Frankfurt. You definitely have to visit one of the street stall called The Best Worscht in Town and grab one of the Curry Wurst. There are many outlets in town and you would definitely be able to see one while walking around. One of them is right at MyZeil.

Cafe & Bar Celona

Holzgraben 31, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

Definitely a highly recommended restaurant in town if you are sick of all the German highly pork based food. Celona is a Spanish style bar that serves up great tapas and it always crowded. Open till late.

Zum Gemalten Haus

A great place that is famous for the city drink of Frankfurt which is apple wine. You certainly can’t go wrong coming here for a bite and also a glass of apple wine. Prices are reasonable. They are open from Tues to Sun from 10am to midnight.
